Beatmaker Hoodies FAQ
The Beatmaker Hoodie is the quiet one: BEATMAKER in white type across a black hoodie, and nothing else. The Beat Maker Hoodie is illustrated: a vintage-style MPC sampler under retro BEAT MAKER lettering in earth tones, in White or Gray. Both are Gildan 18500 fleece in sizes S to 2XL, at the same price.
Every design here comes in black except the Beat Maker Hoodie, which comes in White or Gray. For a lighter shade, Pay Producer and the 808 Embroidered Hoodie also come in white, Eat Sleep Beats and Pay Producer in beige, and five designs come in navy. The 808 Embroidered Hoodie has the widest choice: Black, Navy, Green, Gray and White. Use the Colour filter to see only the shades you want.
An MPC-style sampler. Akai released the first MPC, the MPC60 created by Roger Linn, in 1988, and its 4x4 grid of pressure-sensitive pads became a standard way for hip-hop producers to build beats: load a sample, chop it across the pads, play the drums in by hand. The print puts that machine on the chest in earth tones.
Leave them alone, they are onto something. Beatmakers already say they are cooking up when they start an instrumental from nothing, so the phrase lands twice on anyone who makes beats. The Let Him Cook Hoodie prints it above a goat at the pot, in Black or Navy.
A beatmaker's night starts with nothing: an empty pattern, a blinking cursor, sixteen pads. By sunrise there is a loop that will not leave your head. These beatmaker hoodies are for the person who does that job over and over, usually alone and usually after midnight.
Made in the loop
Most beats start as four or eight bars on repeat. You play the loop two hundred times, nudge the hi-hats off the grid until the swing sits right, mute the melody, bring it back, chop the sample one more way. The Beatmaker Hoodie says the job in one word, white on black, and nothing else. The Beat Maker Hoodie is the louder one: a vintage-style MPC under retro BEAT MAKER lettering, in White or Gray.
The pads and the 808
Plenty of beatmakers still play their drums in by hand on an MPC or a pad controller, because a pattern tapped out with fingers swings in a way a clicked-in one rarely does. Then comes the 808: tuned to the key of the track, long enough to carry the bassline, short enough to leave the kick some room. Making it hit on a phone speaker and in a car is half the craft. The 808 Embroidered Hoodie keeps it small and stitched, and the 808 Sorcerer Hoodie is for the ones who live on sub-bass. For the whole drum-machine range, tees and beanies included, see the 808 collection.
Cooking up after midnight
Beatmakers call it cooking up: starting an instrumental from scratch, late, with nobody else in the room. Let Him Cook is made for that session. Eat Sleep Beats and Eat Sleep Beats Repeat print the schedule. Pay Producer is for the beatmaker selling leases who has heard "I'll tag you" one time too many. And FL Gang is for anyone who learned to build beats in the FL Studio playlist and never left.
What they are made of
Every design here except FL Gang is printed on the Gildan 18500: cotton-poly fleece, 271 g/m² midweight, classic unisex fit, so order your usual size. FL Gang is a Cotton Heritage M2580, which runs small: order one size up. Every hoodie comes in S to 2XL, and the Eat Sleep Beats Producer Hoodie also comes in 3XL.
