Frequently Asked Questions

Roland released the TR-808 Rhythm Composer in 1980 and the market shrugged. Its drums came from analog circuits rather than recordings, so nothing about it sounded like a live drummer, and production ended within a few years. What survived was the kick: a tuned boom with a long decay that behaves like a bass note. That boom carried electro, Miami bass, Southern rap and trap, and it still anchors the low end of modern rap and pop. When a producer wears the number, that is the machine they mean.

THE 808 PIECES

There are two routes into the same three digits. The quiet route is embroidery: a small 808 stitched in white over a red, yellow, green and blue drop on the chest of a hoodie that comes in five colourways, or on a combed-cotton tee. The loud route is the 808 Sorcerer pair, hoodie and tee, a green-on-black graphic of a gas-masked producer working a keyboard like the low end is something you summon. Between them sit 808 Is My Heartbeat, a white 808 wordmark with a red pulse line running through it, and the 808 Sound beanie, a black cuffed knit with the same digits stitched small.

THE COMPANY IT KEEPS

A few designs from the wider drum-machine culture round out the grid: MPC Fingers and Pad Banger for anyone whose drums start on sixteen pads, a Boombox tee for the speakers that carried this kick around the block, and the Beatmaker beanie. Not every graphic here reads 808. Every one of them answers to it.

THE PRACTICAL PART

Tees are $34.99, hoodies $49.99 and beanies $29.99. Most pieces run S to 2XL; the embroidered 808 tee goes up to 5XL in Black, Navy and White, and both beanies are one size. Shipping is free worldwide with no minimum, and every order arrives in 4 to 14 days, depending on your location. Returns run 14 days, unworn and unwashed.
